SOLVED - Screen resolution problems with Virtual Box
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:34:28 AM »
I have installed XP as guest on my Minime with help from this forum. All is OK except that the screen resolution is too small, something like an unworkable 900x768 or thereabouts. If I try to increase it in Settings then the Start button disappears below the bottom of the screen and has to be scrolled up to find it. Similarly the top of Firefox disappears off the top of the screen.

My flat screen resolution is 1680x1050 but getting that becomes impractical.

Perhaps I've overlooked something. I did install guest additions but they made no difference.

Hi Maurice,

when you guest XP is running, select the menu "View" and be sure to activate the feature "Auto-resize Guest Display", the scroll bars should disappear and the display resized to chosen resolution.

Additionally, did you reboot after Guest Additions were installed?

Can you copy/paste between XP and MiniMe? as that's often a quick way to test that GA is functioning.

Do  "Switch to Fullscreen" or "Switch to Seemless Mode" work okay?

Don't know how to do double quotes but....

I couldnt find a 'View' in any menus AS and

no - menotu - I didn't reboot after installing Guest Additions.   ::)

So I reinstalled XP and obviously did just the right things as it is now working nicely in 1680x1050.

Many thanks guys for a quick resolution.

Which VBox version are you using (I "think"?  the  View menu option only became available on versions 4.1x)

Version 4.0.12. So it seems you are right.

I still have a problem though.

A website I use (Oanda, a forex broker) will not work with Linux. I have XP dual booting with Minime but wanted to avoid having to reboot every time I used XP.

So I installed XP in VirtualBox. But, perhaps because it has to come through Minime, I still can't connect with this Oanda. That's my problem though. ;D
