It looks like the access point doesnt like something about the card and it disconnects it.

The wireless network seem to be running at N speed, can you turn it down to g speed and see if it will work.

A solution could be changing network parameters of the interface like rate speed, somebody already suggested this but they lower it to 54, lowering it further if you can

somebody else in the below link seem to have the same problem you have, they didnt get a solution though but you arent alone in this problem.

I have accessed the O2 box and it is running at 65Mb/s.
Unfortunately, i don't see any way of adjusting that.
Earlier I tried the adaptor at 54Mb/s and also 18Mb/s but it didn't make any difference.
Yes, this seems to be a fairly common Toshiba problem with no solution, which is a shame.

For some unwilling WiFi drivers I used ndiswrapper with the WindowsXP drivers.
Do you have XP drivers for this chipset ? if yes, try ndiswrapper.

There are known issues with the Realtek drivers and this just confirmed one of the known issues. The good news is the driver hit the mainline tree in Kernel 3.0. With some fixes, but even better now it's in the hands of kernel developers (Larry Finger) and not realtek. Kudos to RealTek for working with Larry. I'm not sure about PCLinuxOS but Fedora has released the 2.6.40 kernel (really 3.0) which has this driver. I'm sure Tex will update in the upcoming future to 2.6.40 or 3.0 and things will work well. I'm not sure what else to tell you other then try ndiswrapper if you haven't already like the  ^ above poster suggested. If it works well for you please inform the dev team so they can package the firmware and people here on the forums know a solution. I'm sure you're not the only one that has had this issue or will have.

Well, I think we have tried everything we can, and I am all out of time.
Her indoors is demanding a resolution, and so I have purchased some powerline adaptors to enable her to plug into the network from wherever she is in the house.
It's not ideal but it is a solution.
Hopefully in the fullness of time the new kernel will be released and the Toshiba's wi-fi will work again.

yes it's a solution!

as wrote before, sorry to repeat myself, a USB WI-FI dongle would have been a possible alternate solution.
Also, probably that the WIFI module is a miniPCI card, often accessible from the bottom of the laptop, it could be replaced with a different but supported one ...

The laptop is still under warranty so no fiddling about inside unfortunately.
On the positive side, she much prefers PCL to W7 which is what was pre-installed.
