« on: September 02, 2011, 12:32:19 PM »
After i failed to installing LibreOffice by LoManager I have tried to install it by downloading .rpm file form Libreoffice.org and installing it by rpm command in console.

Now it's ok i have already installed it on my PC but they are some error output in console (while installing) here
can't make directory : usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache.....

something like that i wonder if it ok ? everythings work (i mean i can use LibreOffice Writer,Calc etc.) or i have to re-install it another way ?

mrwaistcoat,
Firstly, which version of PCLinuxOS are you running there?

If it is one of the 2011.06 KDE, 20011.07 LXDE series, you should open up Synaptic - the package handler.
After putting in your root password, press the Reload button in the top left corner. After a short time, press Mark all Upgrades.
Press Apply > Apply and leave the machine to update totally.

Then, under PC (the button at the left end of the panel), choose LO Manager. It will then use the latest version of LO Manager to install Libre Office into your machine.

To install LibreOffice by direct downloading an rpm can be done but runs the risk of not finding the required dependencies > a package that will fail. Therefore, since I returned to using PCLinuxOS exclusively, I have made a policy of not installing by any other method than through Synaptic. Thus, I have found my success rate has improved considerably.
Example:
Over the past few days, when using Firefox 6.0, I kept getting little messages saying that Firefox 6.0.1 was ready for download. I ignored these invitations and, last evening, I did an update through Synaptic. There, Firefox 6.0.1 (and Thunderbird 6.0.1) were detected and updated.

The approach that I (and others) advocate will surely cut down on the need for reinstallation of the entire PCLinuxOS distro.

Good luck,

Jim

To install LibreOffice you need the newest version of lomanager. But then you'll also get the newest version of LibreOffice.

You can of course download the same rpms that lomanager would download directly from the LibreOffice site. But then you won't have to install just one rpm. A full install comes in 57 rpms -- plus a dozen or so language and help packages. In most cases doing it the PCLinuxOS way is a lot easier. And the desktop integration will be better.

Thanks all.

Reloading synaptic and marking all upgrades solved the issue (and probably lots of others I didn't know I had yet!)

Brilliantly easy install from lomanager

Thank you guys
I reload Synaptic (& Mark All Upgrades & Apply) and run loManager again it tell me i'm on LibreOffice 3.4.3 the latest version

I think LibreOffice work as it should be just don't want to re-install it again but good to know the PCLOS 's policy , and next time i will use Synaptic for the default installer.

Thanks you  ;D

It's a very good policy to follow oranjer - you'll have far fewer (if any) problems if you stick with installing apps using Synaptic.
