Acer 3300U scanner problem in Xsane
« on: September 03, 2011, 03:51:47 AM »
Hi, I have an old Acer 3300U scanner. It was in storage for a long time and just today I took it out and plugged it in. Control center immediately recognized the scanner and I thought that we were good to go. Once I opened Xsane I got the following message - 'Snapscan:libusb:001:003' invalid argument.  ??? Any thoughts what this could mean. I searched the forums but could not find anything quite the same. Please help  :(

sorry i didn't found this post before

as you say this is a very old scanner

it came in P and U ports

the P is parallel and it does not work in linux, we tested it with no success many times

the U driver you need, seems to be outdated or abandoned but it is still present in the xsane so no idea how to proceed

have you tried another scanner app?  maybe better luck, there is other 3 or 4 apps

At last T6, thanks. This scanner does not have a Parallel port only USB. Any suggestions on alternatives to Xsane ?

skanlite, simple scan

there is other two but can't remember names

i was mistaking a 3300 with a 640p, the one we tested, i had a mess with a 3300 but hp, sorry, i haven't used your particular model

it would be useful to reinstall xsane just to discard possible errors in packages, be sure to have your system fully updated, open synaptic and press reload, apply all updates and then reinstall xsane

i was reading this page

http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html

it says that your benq 3300U(because acer was part of benq that time, still is maybe) is in good support condition on the xsane 1.0.22 and we have that version, with 3 fixes over it, sane seem to be breaking alot lately, my scanner is supported by sane but it doesn't work, i could find unofficial(something not recommended in pclinux, but sometimes you need to do this) drivers for it and it is working perfectly

it mentions version of the backend 1.4 in the xsane version it seems that we have it

I took this scanner over to a friends place a couple of days back to see if if it would work on his PC which ran on Win 7 and I was really glad to see that it it DID NOT  ;D ;D ;D ;D
It wanted to load additional drivers from the original driver CD which was provided with the scanner, now asking for a 9 year old cd is a bit toooo much.
Any ways I am away from home this week and will again experiment and post back once I get back.
