htop shows that /usr/lib/firefox-6.0.2/firefox-bin takes 100% CPU (two lines, as I have dual-core).

The console said:

Code: [Select]
$ firefox
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value "((GString*) 0xb1c68530)" of type `GString'
[NoScript] Adding category

My system is up to date. I don't remember which PCLInuxOS I installed, as it was some time ago. Any way to check it and does it matter if the system is up to date?

If it did not matter than he wouldn't of wasted his time asking if it was up to date!  Yes, it does matter.

That's not what I asked. I know it's important if the system is up to date. And my system is. As I wrote in my last message.

I asked if it was important which version I had installed if my system is updated. After all, all those old packages were replaced by their newest versions, including the kernel--that's why I gave my current kernel in the previous message. If it is important, then I need an advice how to check it, because I don't remember which version I installed. It was quite some time ago.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be mean and I really appreciate the time everyone is taking to help me solve this, but it's the first time someone asks me which version I had installed. I honestly don't remember, I honestly don't know how to check and and I am not sure why it would matter after all those updates.

At least one way to know for sure is to look at the version you have in Synaptic, but if you are update, you are up to date - except for the kernel. You're using one that is several iterations behind, and it does NOT update automatically. I would suggest you do that, but I don't know if it will help your Firefox problem.

Personally, I just gave  up on Firefox after many years of a fond relationship and switched to the Iron browser. I think I see many years of a new relationship on the horizon - it rocks now that I've taken the time to get used to its addons and sync.

I remember having 2.6.38 installed some time ago, but it kept disconnecting my wireless, so I returned to the previous one--37 (the one installed with my system was as old as 2.6.32 or 33).

I'll install the newest one--hopefully the wireless problem has been fixed--and see if there's an improvement.

tvbtiger,

as well as updating the Kernel - as this is an older install - can you confirm that you have carried out "aptupgrade" as per Texstar's previous posts?
