[Solved] Kodak M873 moving images to hard drive

My friend out of state has a Kodak M873, when it is attached to the usb, it gives us the choice of dowloading pictures using glenview or digicam.

I just helped him load the latest KDE along with all the updates.

The problem is digicam doesn't list his M873 as a known camera.  Usual auto it sets him up as another model, which I eek forgot to write down.

So my questions are:

(1) If someone is using a M873 where did we go wrong.

(2) Or, is their a way to tell KDE we would like to open it like a storage device and move the pictures ourselves.

Thank you for your time and viewing.  Hopefully someone has had this problem before.

Don't want to sound like a jerk but I never use a usb cable to download photos from a camera. I pull the SD card from the camera, use a split screen in dolphin, one side is /home/Photos, the other side is the SD card.

I'll then create a new "Dated Folder" (in the /Home/Photo directory I created), and copy them that way. After I'm sure the copy went smoothly, Ill delete the photos from the SD card.

I just find it easier doing it this way, IMHO.

check camera settings, usually there are 2 different modes for transferring images: ptp or usb-mass-storage, where available use the second, else in digikam choose ptp-camera (or generic ptp ... don't remember the exact choice name right now).

Of course, as posted from nok22m and Jaws, generally using a card reader is a better choice over cable.

Might have to do just that, remove the card and put it into the machine.  Before he left for Colorado, I was at his house and did just plug in the usb cable and had the option to open it as a folder.  Seems that has gone away.

I was assuming there might be something I'm missing or that somehow the relationship between the camera and the computer has changed and removed the option to open as a folder.

He's 80 years young, and even pulling and replacing the card, may be an additional hassle.

I've been looking around in Configure your desktop > hardware > devices actions.
It looks like I might be able to tell KDE to "Open with File Manager" might also apply to camera.

To be honest when I try to "add" the first thing it asks me is for a name and I used the "Open with File Manager" as a
name, but it didn't appear on the list.  I assumed it would so I could edit it.  At that point, I knew I was out of my league
and stopped.

Well I'll be darned, yep found that in digicam, and can't test here (no camera, gave it away to a friend who has a new baby, being an OldGuy all I ever shot was my feet(grin)). 

When I next teamview with him I show him the entry in digicam and see if we can't get it working for him.  The ease of just plugging in the usb, rather than the card, will be a great aid for this retired gent.

Well setting it up was just a little different, since it was a Kodak camera we ended up using the "USB PTP Class Camera" instead of the "Mounted Camera" as suggested.

Then imported his pictures quick as a wink.
