There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

Whoooaaa... did this thread take a turn!  :D

Something I (apparently) find amusing, if not productive.  ;D

So...if I remember correctly...the point being...don't be an arse in bitchin' about your problem.

Folks here really and truly want to help you out. Right?   :)

Yes, exactly. The moral to the story, I believe, is that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. In other words, if you post a problem with the caveat that "if no one will help me I'm gonna go back to Distro XYZ or to the Windoze", the chances that someone will want to help you will be close to none or nil.

Just my take, from recent experience.

It's frustrating when things don't work. Especially when things normally work so well.

People get spoiled, then they get mad because something doesn't work, they get lost and maybe mess up some other stuff, then they get desperate and then they post.

They don't bother with telling us what they did or what their problem is, they just post their rant about how something don't work and how they think it should.

These people can't follow instructions or answer simple questions about their problem.

They are too focused on the fact that their system no longer works .

They have become "Zombies".

You can't reason with a zombie, you can't talk sense into a zombie, they will not cooperate with any dialogue.

All you can do is shoot them square in the head.

I have seen our mods do it time and time again.

They don't want to do it,, but it has to be done.

Just cutting your reply, dear Rudge ... I just love the way you put things in the right perspective. Simple and no-nonsense.   8)

Recently I was some aggressive in an answer to my compatriot and a relative newbie.
What I meant was he was telling us and almost not asking.

So... I bagged a pardon (had to) but still I am not sure if I was right.

Vortex,
It might be better to ask questions of the new users. They may not know that they are not giving needed information or that they are 'telling' instead of asking for help. In such cases, we must show them the better way, I believe. :)

+1 giving the benefit of the doubt.

But if they insist that they know better in the issues they are having, an attitude short of arrogance and stupidity, look at Rudge's reply ... these people will get their heads blown off!  ;D

P.S. @Rudge, I am having a Be Nice To Rudge Day.  ;)

New users are often confused by the experience of Linux and fail to include the info we need to assist them. This is just the way things are - nobody can know the "etiquette" of a forum until they make the mistake.
I have spent many years helping new users (and I HATE the phrase "Noob" ) to get to grips with Linux. It is quite a learning curve for many people - despite PCLOS being a really great distro for new users.
Things are much easier than when many of us started on our Linux experience (remember the days of having to mount drives? Samba configuration the hard way? Command line for all setting up? )
We need to remember this and step back before posting a corrosive response too.

Having said that, posting in an excessive aggressive manner, with threats about heading back to other OSes or whatever, should be - and are - killed by the Mods here.

I dislike "shooting someone in the head." That said, I also keep my shotgun loaded. If it is needed, it is ready.
New users are often ignorant of Linux in general and PCLinuxOS in particular. Add to that the probability that they have encountered aggression all over the net, and you have someone who thinks an aggressive posting is the normal way. It is up to us to apply patience to such situations and teach them the better (PCLinuxOS) way. :)

If we ask questions in our responses, they should begin to become familiar with the question and answer type postings. It may take time before they fully get it, but we have to start somewhere. Right?
