In regard to instant gratification, and using google....
A google search for x.org crashes (assuming I know that it is x.org making the pretty stuff on my screen)

I still advocate, heavily and often, for a foundational manual of sorts. The alternative is snide fanboi posts, rtfm and endless discussions as to whether or not someone who doesn't know, deserves to learn. By the time a user makes it here, they have already spent a month fussing with forum searches from the ever present crack rock distros. A fair amount of what google brings up is often ubu threads that go on for like 700 replies before any help actually proffered. The end result is frustration, tons of frustration. And all this is assuming that the person asking has enough knowledge of linux to even know how to pose a question.
Demeaning and mean spirited posts are never in line as far as I'm concerned. If they are a troll asking troll questions and someone answers it in a legit way, then some newb is going to stumble across that post, read the answer and benefit.
Also, let this stand as an apology for getting so heated the other day. I have deep, passionate hatred for OS snobs who bash people who don't like it exactly the same way as them, or know as much as they do. I tend to slide into attack mode pretty quickly if I sense that to be what is being propped up. I very much want to have a home to some degree in the linux community, but refuse to live in a place where pugnacity is a cultural imperative. I just ended up being the offender of the very thing who's potential appearance would have offended me, had I not been the perpetrator of it.
Anyways. Sorry.
