and another thing: the real size of your 1 tb hdd is about 930 mb... as you only have 32 mb free (or unallocated) there no space to install pclinuxos, me thinks...

It must be late. That should read "the real size of your 1 tb hdd is about 930 mb GB... as you only have 32 mb GB free (or unallocated)"

Well, I've changed the unallocated partition to a FAT32 Filesystem, I'll try installing now and update after.

Installing Linux to a FAT32 partition can be done, but it's a poor choice for a filesystem. FAT32 does not support file permissions on a file or directory basis. The permissions have to be set globally, for all files and folders, when the filesystem is mounted. This is done in either fstab or by manually mounting the partition.

Use ext4 instead of FAT32.

Maybe we're both reading it wrong. But, that's the way I saw it.

Yeah, sorry about that, it was FAT32. I picked that since when I tried installing via USB it formatted the USB stick as FAT32. I'll try it as an Ext3/4

EXT4 is better

forget fat32, ntfs is better now, no filesize limit when copying larger files than 4 gbs
Oh, ok.
Also the partitioning program I'm using does not give the option to format as EXT4, only EXT3

not sure to understand

why don't you just create the partitions with pclinux?

not sure if you tried or not to change ahci in bios
The same reason as the topic, the installer can't find my HDD, I was hoping creating partitions that are the correct filesystem may be a workaround :P

pclinuxos will not find a hdd drive that is full!
did you read my previous post?
you should start by re-installing winzows... 700+ gb for that "os" is not wise...
save your data, create a ntfs partition for it (50 gb will do) and one or two partitions for other stuff (music, video, pictures).
then you'll have plenty of space to install pclinuxos...

The HDD is not full, I already had Windows in a separate partition anyway too.

look at your very own screenshot:

your disk is full!

No it isn't. I have 32GB also known as an empty partition, along with 755GB of free space in the Windows partition.

but the problem is that it can't find anything(excluding USB devices)
what kind and how many  usb devices?

so I created ~32GB unallocated space

Can you please tell us , step by step how you did this ?

I'm pretty sure PCLinusOS doesn't require 32GB of space to install.

No, for a test install, PCLOS does not require more than the 32GB unallocated space you have.

Not sure if I read it or not .....  but if this is a SATA HDD then setting the BIOS from IDE (emulation) to AHCI should allow PCLOS to see the drive.

You may need to run a MS script to load some drivers to allow Windows to work with this - if it is the problem.
(no I have no idea why this emulation mode thingy got foisted on us  :(  )

+1, you never confirmed about the AHCI mode

Yes, changing mode from Legacy to AHCI or the inverse would require to install a new driver to boot windows,
but right now would suffice to know about the AHCI settings.
(the emulation mode born to support those OSes that were not provided with SATA drivers, like W9x ...)

One of the better suggestion was from Vorteks, as first reply to your thread, to  post about fdisk -l command:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,96278.msg813009.html#msg813009

did I lost the post about the results ?  ;)
