Solved: Compiz?
« on: August 25, 2011, 05:35:06 PM »
Hi, I downloaded a clock app and it said I need Compiz? Can someone tell me what version I should use? Is it the fusion one or something else? There are a few in the repository.

Thanks -John

Since it asks for compiz, just install compiz. No need to start second guessing about whether compiz means compiz-fusion. It doesn't.

i don't know if compiz works in lxde

you need to install a package called task-3d

also install fusion icon

this will add the fusion menu to configure window decorations and the module to configure, enable or disable the desktop effects

you need to have a powerful video card to use compiz, if your machine is kinda old and you have a onboard sis or via video card it is possible that you can't use compiz

about that app asking for compiz, i never seen something similar, maybe is something related to cairo?

All kidding aside, any ideas about cool stuff to trick out the desk top?  I want to make it look like a Polish wedding! (I'm Polska so I can say that)

Dual Core 2Ghz
2 gig Ram
Nev video card (128 ram maybe? I will have to reboot into Snow Leopard to find out)

Thanks

I must have mist something, I installed it but when I try to install the clock, it said it was not running. Will I see something that will let me know it is running?

Maybe you could give us more details. Like what exactly you've done and what you're trying to do.
If you're trying to run compiz 3d, You need to set up 3d in PCC. If you're only wanting to run cairo clock, try starting it from the terminal. Any terminal feedback will give clues as to what needs to be done.

I have tried adding Compiz to LXDE, an annoying problem is that there doesn't seem to be a Compiz-compatible virtual desktop switcher for LXDE.
PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

Yea, I'm using the compiz wizard and go through the setup and Nada! I will root around and find something that will work. Will compiz work on the Phoenix desktop?

You should be able to start up 3D at the login screen, I think. Or PCC > Hardware > Configure Graphics > Configure 3D Desktop Effects.
