Solved: Wallpaper folder?
« on: August 24, 2011, 10:47:35 AM »
OK, where is the best place to make a wallpaper file in Linux and what is the best way to make the wallpaper software, app, gizmo, widget, client, dinks-boomps find it for future wallpapers? I'm using LXDE.  I looked at the FM and Linux is a strange place, I'm not even sure where the apps are stored at when I download a file and I need to pick an app to open it with.

Hi Welcome to Linux PCLOS to be exact.

Most wallpapers are stored in /usr/share/wallpapers or /usr/share/backgrounds.
I like to make a directory named Wallpapers in my /home/<usrname>/ directory also.

you can change the wallpaper in LXDE by clicking on the lxde panel icon and then on wallpaper.

hope this is of help to you.

In LXDE, wallpapers are installed to /usr/share/lxde/wallpapers. You may also put them in /usr/share/wallpapers or anywhere in your /home/<you>. When changing wallpapers, right click the desktop and choose Desktop Preferences from the drop down menu. You will see the name of the wallpaper currently in use. Click on it. A window will open with options available for your wallpaper. If you're using the default wallpaper, it will be opened to /usr/share/lxde/wallpapers. You can change to your /home by clicking on your name in the left side menu. From there, you can choose the directory where you have stored your wallpapers in the main body. If you want to switch to a wallpaper in/usr/share/wallpapers, just click on Share in the address shown at the top and then choose wallpapers from the main body.

Hi,

There are hidden directories and files in your home. To see them, you can select the menu "View > Show hidden files" in your file manager, in the file manager once you have opened it, you can also hit the "Ctrl+H" keyboard shortcut, and if you wish to look in console, the command "ls -lA" or "ls -A" or "ls -Am" will display them for you. You will recognize them as hidden directories and files, thanks to the "." that starts their name.

In my personal system I place the background images in my home under /home/melodie/.local/share/wallpapers
