Let me count the reasons.    ::) ::) ::)

1) you can receive the RAM modules directly to your home, by mail
2) you look like to be able to open your computer
3) it's no much different then unplug/plug in some connector
4) we are still here to provide enough info to help you to be successfull

Let me give you one reason why you should ...

It's worth the shot, ms_meme. Go for it.

you could also consider the options here http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=83054 a couple of quoted suggestions

Quote
Akregator is an optional application, doesn't start unless you deliberately instruct it to. Akonadi will only start if it's services are required, which is probably caused by Plasma's clock. Assuming that unstable 4.x = trunk, then right click on the clock > Digital Clock Settings > Calendar. Untick "Show Events".

Finally, due to the resources of your system being constrained, i'd also recommend disabling Nepomuk completely, go to System Settings > Desktop Search.

Quote
You can reduce the weight of Akonadi/Nepomuk. First, head to System Settings > Desktop Search and untick "Enable Strigi Desktop File Indexer".

Second, run "kcmshell4 akonadi". In the resources list shown, make sure to remove the duplicates which are likely present due to the several repeated upgrades which failed. Ensure you don't remove the one which contains your data (or alternately, remove them all - and reimport your data)

Third, if you already run mysqld locally for other things, create an account and database for it then enter those details into Akonadi Server Configuration (after unticking Use internal MySQL server - and clearing the Options field)

Alternately, you distribution might have made SQLite available. Whilst not as performant and not recommended in some cases - you may find it better.

Fourth, log out of the KDE environment and remove ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk. This will give you a fresh Nepomuk database - which is unfortunately required for Akonadi to provide search. It should reduce the amount of memory used by Nepomuk.

Where were we  ??? ??? ???

I haven't had much opportunity to see if there has been a difference after doing whatever it is/was we did as I didn't have computer on full blast for a while.  But I have no doubts that it helped some.

The last thing I did was take the side off the computer, dust it up a bit and take a picture.  After doing that, I am sure it is never going to happen again.  I only have to list one reason why!!

1. Because I said so.   :)

Maybe there are some more tweaks that are available.  Hope so because it would be a shame to disappoint those that are watching with interest.
And it would be a shame to disappoint those along just for the fun. (guess who?)  ;D

OK ms_meme, however I have to state a few things:

- going on with tweaking probably will require more effort in exchange of lesser improvements

- because I can't exclude 100% the chance we are going to broke something I need to be sure that you have at least a dual boot system where both system are working, one way or the other you must be always in the position to join the forum.
(otherwise all those members who are looking at this thread will shot me in the head  ;D )
As far as I know, you should actually have a triple boot, KDE, XFCE, Windows, I want explicit confirmation about the fact that all three can actually be used to reach this forum  ;)

- you will need to be very patient  ;)

- Finally I thank you because I'm increasing my experience about KDE environment.  ;) ;D

Let's go for broke.....well maybe.   ;)

Don't mind being your guinea pig.....well maybe.  ;)

Yes, I can reach the forum via Windows, KDE and and XFCE and have done so.

My boot menu is IMO a mess and needs fixing.  It is working of course but needs arranging and simplifying.  When I installed XFCE, the menu got messed up.

So before I even attempt to do anything more, I will be asking Just19 to help me straighten it up.
And he has the patience of an Irishman.  :(   It needs doing whether I keep tweaking or not.

* I don't have hesitations.  But am asking if more is better?  Which of course we may not know until doing it.  I just don't want to lose my Files etc.
And there are no dead lines to meet.
And we can always BUMP this thread AAT.  ;D

Hope you don't mind  (to speed up the things) if ask you to post the content of the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
