Try again but choose the Live CD No Boot Splash option.

Post the last messages before the freeze.

After choosing No Boot Splash, a lot of writing on black screen appears. It stops and this appears in RED.

Errors: Unable to mount loop filesystem
Commands were:
losetup /dev/loop0 initrd/cdrom/  livecd. sqfs
mount -r -t squashfs /dev/loop0  initrd/loopfs

Most likely cause is bad burn or bad download.  Please run media check on livecd.

(I think the RED ended here)

Dropping to a limited shell

Loading /initrd/bin/ash /initrd/ bin/ash; can't access tty;
job control turned off

....Then something like  $_____  appeared and I pressed or typed something and the words started scrolling or flashing really fast and no way to stop it.  I turned off machine

HOW do I get off that page without it doing that?  If I have to go there again?

Have you run the media check on the disk, as suggested?

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Is the media check something like checking those numbers of the check sum?  I remember dragging the iso of other things into the konsole to see if the # was the same.  But I don't know where to get the numbers. I saw some numbers on the picture I took from the ISO Creator.  Maybe that is what I am suppose to match up?

And I may just be mistaken about what it is.  I don't really know.  :(

(I was going to suggest:
I suggest you tell me how.

But decided not to suggest that
;)  )

When you boot from the live CD, Media Check is one of the menu options. Selecting that from the menu will run the media check to test the contents of the CD.

Not 100% sure ... but I think there was a media check ... but it's not there anymore ...
Still think there is a HW issue around your DVD unit ...

ms_meme,
please retry, when possible ... after a cold reboot. If it will not work, turn off the computer.

Reboot into your KDE system, log in as root, open a Konsole, insert your LiveDVD media, and type the following 2 commands

md5sum /home/ms_meme.iso
md5sum /dev/sr0

the resulting md5sum(s) should match.

This is what I did:

I rebooted and signed in as root.
I brought up the Konsole.
I put the dvd in.  It appeared.  I saw it in the panel to the left.
I put the first code in and ENTER.  Nothing appeared.
I put the next code in and ENTER.  Nothing appeared.

I did not do a copy and paste...because I did not know how to get to the command when I was as root.  But I had written it down very carefully and am sure it was entered as you wrote.

The first command calculate the md5sum of  the newly created ISO image on the hard disk, it will require no less than 2 minutes to complete, else some error should be shown.

The second command do the same thing on the DVD media loaded into the unit, it will require no less than 7 ~ 10 minutes ... may be more ... to complete, else some error should be shown;)

Do I understand I am to do this again?

If so, I am to put the command in and wait several minutes until I see an Error message Or a string of numbers.

If I see numbers, I will then put in the next command and wait for 10 or so minutes and hopefully see a second string of numbers.

Can I do this by just signing in as SU.....or do I have to resign in as root?

I really think there is an hardware issue with your DVD unit.
However, assuming I'm wrong and that something is broken at software level in your KDE installation, you could try to boot XFCE-Phoenix, and retry from there.

Boot Xfce
log in as root
open a terminal and type again
md5sum /dev/sr0

AS

Got the same result there.  :(  So you are probably right and something is wrong with the DVD unit.
Would this mean that if I made a CD from an iso downloaded from the PCLinuxOS site and burned to disk.......that I could not install from it?  (just trying to understand)

I guess I could still install from the USB? (just trying to understand)

So this is the end of the making of a Remaster thing.  And we can go back a few pages and see where we left off.
