The only backing up I do is periodically save some folders etc to my USB.  I can do more of that.  But I am going to ask more about what folders .. like in the hidden ones of FF/Mozilla etc to back up.  I never understood that.  My Thunderbird and profiles?

(And here is another thought.  Before installing XFCE I had also tried LX from the USB.  I think I installed XFCE because of flipping coin.  But I would like to also like to try the install of LX.  I know....more headaches.  :(   But the whole purpose of the extra partition was to allow me to try different installs.   Just leaving that idea for now.  No need to add to the/my confusion.)

Just waiting.  :)

I would like you would have at least one boot-able system (either LiveUSB or LiveCD/DVD) available for emergency,
better of all a remaster of the current systemDo you want to make one ms_meme ?

I think I tried or attempted that at one time.   ???   Seems like I didn't have the right disk or something.

Perhaps get the boot list in order first.  :)
I like doing all these things.  Just need to be in full control of my mind and clicky fingers.

Remastering your own system is a 2 step process, first you create an ISO image, second you burn your ISO image, the result is a CD containing the flavor PCLINUXOS-2011-msmeme.

The difficult (may be) are around to choose what to backup and what to leave out from, and the need for some free hard disk space..

Please provide the following info: post the content of the file /etc/fstab and the output of the command blkid

It's appear you have a total of 8 Gb used (5.2 + 2.8 ), that should fit without any problem in a compressed DVD ISO.
You also have enough free space in /home partition to successfully build your remaster, while the free space in '/' partition could be insufficient.

I'm going to perform a test on my virtualbox machine, later (few hours), I will provide you a command line to start the remaster.
You will need an empty DVD-R too.

Maybe you could be more specific on what I need.  I won't be ordering anything on line.  :(
And I won't be paying $39.99 for a pack of whatever.  :(

This project probably won't go anywhere.  :(

DVD-R should range between 0.20 $ and 0.50 each one ... depending on the shop you may be able to find single media or a pack of 10 DVD ...  Alternatively you could use a 4 GB USB stick ... provided that your computer can boot from USB ...

I go for the .50 one.  ;D

Maybe someone could help me search for what I 'may/might' get.  We have Walmart, Radio Shack, Office Max that I know of.

Maybe some pictures or links  of what it is?

I am not sure what you meant by "boot from USB".

But now I am in my USB (don't know what a stick is).  I have booted into the ISO of the XFCE ...not my install.
