[solved] thunar is slow with ethernet connected

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out why thunar file manager takes 12-15 seconds to open with the ethernet connected. It opens very fast without it connected. I'm guessing it may be the network browsing in thunar. (so I've read in another post) Is there any way to disable network browsing in thunar? Maybe there are some packages to remove? If you need more info I'll answer the best I can. Thank you.

I finally figured it out. If you go to /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount and change the "AutoMount" value to false, it won't spend all that time trying to mount your network automatically when using anything related to thunar. Now it responds instantly. (within 1 second)

altho this is fine if you would like a faster thunar on launch ... it will mess with you network browsing ... so remember for that little bit of speed you may cause other issues ... you have been warned lol

What about using Gigolo instead of functions in Thunar to browse your files on the local network ? I didn't even know that it has this function but if it makes Thunar slow to start, maybe also looking at Xfce bug place to find if other people have complained about it might be an idea. If not it is possible to open a bug, if yes, possible to add a comment for an additional feedback.

It not a bug ... it's functionality ... the file manager stats the network ... thats how it is designed to work ... it can be turnt off as discussed ...

If you google the problem you will find many people complain over this with distros using 4.8. Seems to effect some people opening slow and twice first time after a reboot and then it performs without problem! Some seem to have resolved their problem in differing ways, but if you don't use network browsing then this does cure the initial slow start!

the reason it is quicker in root is that root doesnt have to stat the network or drives ... it has the privileges ... and if you running in root then you shouldnt and it is not recommended practise for users ...

Just a question : in your network configuration, do you have the users who are allowed to manage the connection ? If you don't remember, you can check this by making as if you were configuring a new connection but take the same steps as you have done when you configured it, until you reach that one window, then dismiss.

Thanks for mentioning that sproggy. I don't use network browsing, but others do. I like things to launch quickly. The network browser does work by clicking the network tab in the side pane in the Home folder. It mounts as normal then also. I just prefer home to launch fast.

Great job on 2011.7 and 2011.8. I'm dual booting phoenix 2011.7 with kde on my laptop.
