serial mouse

im tryin to get a serial mouse woking in linux (i know thats retarded). i tried changing the settings in  computer config but it wont stay on serial it just reverts back to usb/ps2 eveyrtime. I tried enabling the port as com1 in bios that didnt work either. ive been searching online for an answer but nothing seems to work. any suggestions ?

retarded per se, no but there is more simple solutions this days avoiding to use the dumb old mouse using the heavy ball inside, unprecise by definition

there was another post exploring the idea on this forum but can't remember the name, it is kinda old
