What I think I will do is........
I haven't had one minute to look around at the XEfc.  Haven't done anything except play in Synaptic.  :(

I want to explore the nice things Sproggy has made and enjoy it for a while.
I will read the direction book. (is there one?   :P  )
I will read what things others had said in the topic.

I am sure I will find something to ask about later.  ;D
And I will see if that black screen happens again.  :'(

If You have any questions please ask - we will all try to answer them the best we can.

I hope that the black screen won't show up again. If it will - we will try to find the cause for it and we will try to hunt the beast.

Try following the above post so we can exclude file system corruption before You will try playing with xfce. It's just a precaution.

A thought ......  is it possible the black screen after a length of unused time might be related to a screensaver setting? ....

It is not nice to scare ms_meme!!!  :o

I am just now going through some options one of which is Power Management...at this very minute and up comes your idea.
Here is what it shows:

Power Management Enabled  check in

Standby After 10 Minutes
Suspend After 15 Minutes
Off After 20 Minutes

Quick Power-off in Blank Only Mode...No Check In

I would disable those ...  untick them.

I see no reason to have those set on a desktop machine ....  if suspend is needed it can be invoked manually from the shutdown options.

If there is a problem with acpi on your machine those ticks could be the cause ... and I seem to recall something about acpi use on your PC ....  but maybe I was just having a dream nightmare   :D

Have a look too at the screensaver settings ....  make sure you can test any screensaver selected without incident

I disabled.  I am sure that is what is was.  The black screen I saw was just the whole thing turned off.
I also disabled the Screen Saver.  It has come on and what was there worked.  I just don't use it.

I am pretty sure I have disabled all the above in my KDe install also.

I don't know if I should start another thread or not.  Just questions in general and some specific.  I tried some things and then I tried to organize what I did or wanted to know.  That would take for ever, so just decided to jump in as I need answers.

I have installed Gimp, Inkscape and Scribus.  All working fine.

1. The Window Manager shows the double click action to Maximize window.  I guess that would be on the title bar?  But when I double click, nothing happens.  How to make double click maximize the window?
I am also having difficulty with the arrows in corner to expand or enlargen the screen.  Maybe just shaky hands, but I had no trouble in KDE.  Just wondering if there is any adjustment feature to that?

2. I like the screenshot taker in the panel.  It takes the entire screen.  I don't see a feature to take a selected portion of a screen.  Is there one?  If not what can I install to do this?

3. Is there a way to get a split screen option?  I love that feature.

4. Using Thunar.  When Deleting files they go to the TRASH.  Is the only way to permanently delete thing is to go through the TRASH?

5. I know there must be a way to put the bar that is at the top....at the bottom.

Yes, I understand I am not using KDe.   ;D  I just want to be sure I can do what I want to do.  And Yes, I am not too old to learn or adapt to new things.  :)

I think You are ok ms_meme. I bet that our moderators will turn the bind eye on it. Most of them is "wearing" the very special avatars :).

I don't have xfce installed and I can't remember the answers from the top of my head. I bet soon one of the xfce users will be able to give You the answers that You need.

Hi ms_meme,

I have very limited knowledge of XFCE, and can answer only about few things:

About double click: don't know
About difficult:
may be you you need to setup the mouse and lower the Acceleration: Phoenix menu --> Xfce settings manager -> Mouse

2. I like the screenshot taker in the panel.  It takes the entire screen.  I don't see a feature to take a selected portion of a screen.  Is there one?  If not what can I install to do this?

Right click on the icon, choose "properties", and then you can set the desired behavior

3. Is there a way to get a split screen option?  I love that feature.

no that I can see, a real expert is needed here

4. Using Thunar.  When Deleting files they go to the TRASH.  Is the only way to permanently delete thing is to go through the TRASH?

Same as in KDE, you can permanently delete a file by pressing the key SHIFT while choosing delete using mouse.
Thunar will ask a confirmation in this case, before to delete the file.

5. I know there must be a way to put the bar that is at the top....at the bottom.

Yes, you need to open Phoenix-menu --> XFce4-Setting manager --> Panel (mouse icon)
the untick "Lock Panel", you to do this for Panel1 and for Panel2

once panel are unlocked, you may notice a little handle on the left of the panel, click on that handle and drag the panel to screen bottom:

when done lock the Panels 1 & 2.

Yes, I understand I am not using KDe.   ;D  I just want to be sure I can do what I want to do.  And Yes, I am not too old to learn or adapt to new things.  :)

Most of the settings are in xfce4 settings manager, but please ask when needed ;)
