The 4 were moved.  All marked by the 1st entry.
Reloaded and now installing the Updates/grades.

Then I will check to see if those others were included. (Hope I can find them.  :( )

Just a few minutes left.  I am always slow at night.

I am sure You can find them... You are ms_snoopy... Private eye of the PCLinuxOS Community...

Just search for:

ms_meme is not amused!!

In fact she is now petrified!!!!   :o
Those you marked are now being installed.  And when they are finished, I will reboot.

Assuming this is going to work.....I will thank you now!!  All of your screen shots were wonderful and so helpful.  I didn't have any problem following the directions.  I just like to repeat to make sure I have it right.
Yes, it would be wonderful if you lived next door.   :-*
You don't have to stick around for the reboot.  If I don't make it, you will just have to do it over again tomorrow......so you better cross you fingers.  ;)

There is another problem that I mentioned on page 1 or 2.  Will bring it back to the forefront after this gets solves.

I understand that the packages from Your list are now being installed? Great. Reboot after.

Don't be petrified. I have a good hunch about all this. My spidey sense does not warn me about anything.

If I would live next door You would have the PCLinuxOS support for free.

I have my fingers crossed but like I said - I think it will just work.

Waiting for an update from You.

Don't forget to check synaptic for broken packages after reboot.

Try re-running dupeclean. Let's see where this takes us this time.

I would try a packages database rebuild (rpm --rebuilddb) ... it seems corrupted ...

I don't think it's corrupted... I think that what happened here is machine froze in the middle of the upgrade.

If You ever watched apt-get installation process it installs new packages and then removes old ones. It must have frozen during the installation so there are new packages installed and it froze before system had a chance to remove old versions of packages. (This happened to me on my server once or twice for the unknown reason - and yet the server flies - I was able to get it going again without a lot of problems).

ms_meme was forced to cold poweroff her machine and it caused a bit of trouble. Let's see what dupeclean says first. Then I would try manually removing old versions of the packages and if that won't help we might try the package database rebuild.

Thanks for Your suggestion as.

I ran the dupeclean and it said removing a long list.  I reopened Synaptic and there was no message this time.

Try opening synaptic and reloading / checking for upgrades. If there are none - please reboot.

I think we have it fixed.

What other issues were there to fix ms_meme?

Reran dupeclean again.......and no duplicates this time.

Yes, the problem was I had to shutdown because of a stall in the updating.  This is the other problem.
I had left the install when it was stuck...thinking it was probably just taking long time...although I really knew it was stuck.

But then when I returned the screen had blacked out with no movement possible.  I had thought it was a Synaptic related thing.   But then the same black out happened when I just had the desktop up.  I haven't had it happen again because I haven't left it all to itself again.....scared to.
I can use the hibernate or what the other resting thing is called.  It works.

What I think I will do is........
I haven't had one minute to look around at the XEfc.  Haven't done anything except play in Synaptic.  :(

I want to explore the nice things Sproggy has made and enjoy it for a while.
I will read the direction book. (is there one?   :P  )
I will read what things others had said in the topic.

I am sure I will find something to ask about later.  ;D
And I will see if that black screen happens again.  :'(

Great.

Now we need to take care of the possible file system corruption that may have occurred due to the poweroff.

It will only take few minutes and it won't hurt a tiny bit.

If You can open the terminal and issue few commands followed by [ENTER] punch:

Code: [Select]
su
Provide root password (there will be no indication of typing it in but trust me it's going to be there) and press enter.

Code: [Select]
ldconfig
Code: [Select]
updatedb
This may take a bit to finish.

Code: [Select]
cd /
Code: [Select]
touch /forcefsck
After that - close the terminal and reboot the machine. It should take bit longer to boot. File system will be checked.

It should all look something like this:
