Error When Attempting to Exclude Directories from Remaster

Just19, I’ve never contemplated physically cleaning the insides of my notebook and the idea scares me, somewhat.  Do you have any advice on how to go about it?

Don't do it Yourself it it scares You. It's not very difficult BUT it may cause some problems. It would be best to try a computer service - a good one... and give the machine to them. It may cost You a bit tho...

Quite often there are tutorials on line - with pics - to detail the steps to take for particular devices.
If you go down this route ensure you find more than one ...  preferably 3 ....  and read and understand them before neginning.
You can always start a thread on the forum if you have questions about some of the details.

The alternative, as Andy says, is to find someone who is good at their job and familiar with the device, to do it.

Based on the temps you reported this is something I would advise doing as soon as possible.

My desktop CPU is presently 38C as I write this .....

Not all of us are lucky enough to live in a fresh place like you, as I understood from other posts  
and the CPU temperature can be (and usually is) higher when you live in "hot/warm" countries.

Stephen is in Aus .....  during Winter .....  and a relatively cold one from what I hear .....  I would not give that device much hope when Summer arrives   

And yes ....  here it is approximately the same temp as Sydney .....  their Winter and our Summer!

About the temperature issue, another thing you should check is the cpufreq governor, if it is actually running or not on your system. just another 2 cents.

Hi, I'm back after having taken my notebook to a technician for a clean out.  It is running somewhat cooler and I have managed, three times, to create an ISO using mylivecd.  The ISO is around 2.4GB.

I have burned each of these ISOs to a DVD but in each case when I attempted to start a live session, the boot process very slowly progressed but, upon reaching then end of the progress bar, proceeded no further.  (I have burned the DVDs via PCLinuxOS and via Windows 7.)

I have attempted to boot the DVD on both my notebook and my desktop computers.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and again, any further advice will be appreciated greatly.

that was a success only in building the ISO, or you was able to boot from the remastered ISO ?
(the answer could greatly speed up in finding the solution to your current issue).

Also, try to compare the md5sum of the ISO file with ths md5sum of the burned media:

md5sum LiveCD.iso
md5sum /dev/sr0       # after inserting the live DVD media into the drive
if the results differs, you are experiencing a bad burning/bad media issue.

Stephen, I have two Acer Extensa 4420's Laptops, AMD 64's 32bit Intel Core2 Duo 1.9GHz with 2GB memory, they both get Hot, so we purchased a Laptop plastic tray that raises the rear end and also since the fan is on the right rear we moved the Laptop off centered to allow the fan to flow better. I also just recently installed a new 500Gb HDD to replace the orginial installed 160GB and during the process the sucker got even hotter, so I left off the plastic plate that covers the HDD and the fan for air flow, after using EASEUS Partition Master 9.0.0 Home Edition to move everything to the newer drive I found that the newer 500Gb HDD when installed in the Laptop, a WD product, ran cooler.
