LXDE 201106 Full Version Re-install: smooth as silk.......
« on: August 15, 2011, 12:01:44 AM »
Hi y'all

Decided to re-install this excellent OS on an HP ProBook 6450b. All went smoothly, including Libre Office install.

Then I set about fine-tuning. Changed the GDM log-in window a couple of times, then back to original. In doing this I managed to end up with a persistent tmp folder icon on the desktop. Keep deletin' the tmp icon. It doggedly returns each re-boot. Any ideas on how to terminate once and for all? TIA.

Otherwise IMHO FWIW there is no doubt PCLOS LXDE kicks severe butt. This is my current benchmark for user-friendly Linux distros, one that satisfies intelligent lightweight Linux design, and enables M$-frazzled GNUcomers to migrate more easily. Respect and kudos to all involved.

PS: It is truly unbelievable the enormous amount of HP Win7 clogging, constipating bloatware that is dumped on unsuspecting consumers these days (Toshiba and others not far behind). Great incentive for loading PCLinuxOS instead!    ;)    A donation is definitely in order.

Other than change the gdm theme, what did you do? Details, please. You used GDM Settings to do the changes?
Have you run bleachbit?

Look in /etc/skel/Desktop. Is there a tmp icon there? If so, delete it (as root).

Hey Neal

Thanks again. No bleach-bitting (yet). All of a sudden, tmp icon is no longer, once I actually inserted new folders into my main home directory (I'd deleted all original default folders during re-install). Hadn't got around to loading my back-up folders until just now.

Seems battery monitor applet isn't tracking percentage discharge or graphically displaying lowered charge either. Stuck on 100% read-out. Haven't changed anything in BIOS (ACPI). Strange. Will investigate further.   ???

Forgot to mention I still had to edit xorg.conf to make screen res permanent. Must be that undefined integrated Intel graphics on-CPU-die that's causing misrecognition (Core i3-370, HM57 chipset).

BTW really appreciate recent version Libre Office Writer setup (v.3.4.2 if I recall correctly). LO team modifying things for ease of use.    :)

You hadn't said that you deleted your directories in /home. When posting about such issues, you should never leave out information. When you leave out information, you limit any and all responders to an incomplete set of facts to use to try to come up with a solution.
