.....after  a fresh install of lxde 2011.06....onto clients p4 w/ati rage 128 pro agp card....1 g mem. etc

(2010.12 worked fine on this clients box...)

---immediately after todays 204 updates from heathnet/megagames  original repos =

THE BOTTOM BAR panel changed to a "split" horizontal, shiny 2-tone BLUE type theme
but the desktop is original "lightweight" and grey....whats up with that?   ---I had changed nothing from virgin LXDE.

The install was fresh on a wiped clean 20 gig seagate ide hard drive....

Anybody notice this quirk? I'm not familiar enough with the various themes or backrounds settings to try to repair.

i''m thinkin maybe there are too many video packages downloaded causing overlap somewhere or glitched something.....?

I hid the "odd color" problem with panel tranlucency for now.

The package containing the background image was updated, but the 2010 image was used instead of the 2011 image.
<-- This image is the 2011 background.png for lxpanel. (Yes, it looks like a gray line. LOL) Just right click > save image as > copy it to /usr/share/lxpanel/images (let it overwrite the other image).

I had thought so, too.

.........Thanks for the replies, kind sirs....

I'm sorry for no screenshot...I will try to get one for you...there is no "line" - the bottom panel bar was horizontally split with {double} "blue" colors (which did resemble an older 2008-9? backround color scheme...) ...like maybe this one.
.....This machine had no old prior pclos, and the install was on a completely wiped clean HD.

I will try what Neal says....and report here.   I forgot to set up the clients printer, anyway....I won't be able to get to it for a few days....

Thank you very much, again....I seriously don't know WHERE this quirk came from --- maybe : out of the BLUE!  - hahaha! ::) ;)

...Neal, ....i'm thinkin - maybe -just maybe, when i set up his panel bar size - on the panel preferences (initially, before update)...under appearance - the "backround.png"  (usr/share/lxpanel/images)  got moved or changed by quirk or accident....

I checked a live cd today....to try to emulate - but could not.....BUT i'm not speaking of any "LINE" - just a color scheme/backround snafu...BECAUSE of my bad eyes, i WILL INCREASE the magnification to verify what you are saying....maybe the separation is such?

-when you uncheck {in live cd}: "IMAGE" box, it goes to "NONE"....and i have his set to "SOLID color with opacity" for now....it {image box} reverts back to "NONE" if rechecked...and maybe this is what happened, and it showed up after the update {as a coincidence}....

The IMAGE box should be "backround.png" - not "none"...{although there is nothing wrong with the backround default "lightweight" image....just the lower panel settings bar....} maybe you understand this and we are talking about the same type scenario....?

I cannot verify till i see his machine again, and it will be in a day or two....I hope it is that simple, and not a pclos lxde error....i have installed 2011.06 on 4 other machines thusfar... pretty much the same way, with the same DISK....no prob-le-mos...(just with the unichrome onboard video, and a few older Nvidia RIVA TNT chipsets..............have good luck with the ATI rage 128 series of AGP cards with larger lcd monitors, for seniors basic usage...)

I will attempt the prescribed - and report back....thanks for spelling things out for me.... ;)

The line I was talking about is in my first response here. I was talking about how the image looks like a vertical line. I was not talking about a line on your computer but what appears as a line in my post.

If you change the background image setting to "none" and have "Image" selected, you will get no image displayed. If you select "solid color with transparency," you can leave "Image" set to background.png. As long as "solid color with transparency" is selected, the background image won't show.

If you exchange the background.png as I previously said, you will have the 2011 background, rather than the 2010 background.

........ :-[ :-[ :-[  sorry for my ignorance/misunderstanding............Your "LINE" trick -on this forum is a new one on me....I see the way you disguised the link, -now.

I understand and will attempt.

The vertical line is some kind of a "link insert" i am unfamiliar with... and reading off a laptop at a wifi hotspot is not the best place for me.

Thank you.

It is simply an image link insert, the same as any other. The difference is in the size of the image. This one is 1x26.

ok...........today other clients have reported their screen backround turning 'BLACK"...all this came with the newest update as of sunday aug 14th, and i have been ill for the past few days, and hav'nt kept up with any fixes........

Here is a screen shot of one clients desktop, and was black yesterday....i just right cliked on desktop> desktop preferences> and put the image back {that was there before} taken from the picture folder....  I don't know WHY the desktop backrounds are dissappearing - maybe a bug or code error somewhere?  It only happens after the latest updates...

Here is a PANEL BAR dual blue example happening to my clients machines...

................Here is the same desktop after i changed : PANEL SETTINGS, by right cliking on bar >PANEL SETTINGS>PANEL PREFERENCES>APPEARANCE>Backround-check : Solid color with OPACITY....close. =

.........This is my temporary fix for now- i tried to overide the backround.png as Neal suggested and it is in there {with a few others}- but did'nt do anything....maybe i was supposed to do it as : ROOT?

This desktop scenario , if it HOLDS, we can live with....

I also read these posts, and maybe MY snafu is somewhat related, although i did'nt see anything about it happening with the latest update....

There was a "BUG" - HERE.

and some desktop snafu : HERE...

I'm posting this info - in case others have these circumstances...

Does anyone know what the name of the lake on the desktop. It looks like Crater Lake here in Southern Oregon.

I just got back from motorcycle camping there last week. Was a great trip and really nice weather for camping. Next week it is off to Timothy Lake on the South East side of Mt. Hood about 50 miles (80 km) from the Portland metro area.

For future reference, doing anything in the filesystem outside of /home must be done as root. You can not make such changes as user.

Save the image to your Pictures folder or the folder of your choice in your /home/JNibski (or whatever name you use).

copy it to /usr/share/lxpanel/images.

Simple Instructions: Follow them step by step.
LXMenu > File Tools > PCManFM > navigate to your Pictures folder (or whatever folder you saved the background.png image to) > right click the background.png image > choose Copy from the right click menu >>>
LXMenu > File Tools > File Manager Superuser Mode -- give root password when gksu opens and asks for it --- navigate to the /usr/share/lxpanel/images directory (folder) > right click any empty space within the folder > choose Paste from the right click menu > when the pop-up opens to request confirmation of action, choose Overwrite.
Close File Manager Superuser Mode. Close PCManFM.
LXMenu > More Applications > Configuration > Configure Your LXDesktop > lxdecc (LXDE Control Center) will open > click on the Refresh Panel icon. Close lxdecc.

Any update to LXDE-Common, PCManFM and/or libfm may reset your wallpaper to the default.
