I will be glad if I can get this solved. My inboard microphone on my laptop is working like a dream. I have tried gnome-media and audicaty (maybe I can not configure it correct). Other then that every thing is going well.

Running PCLinuxOS on my USB. PCLinuxOS went bang on me. I have X-u-b-u-n-t-u on my laptop for now. Will give PCLinuxOS a try in the feature.

For great control over choice of multiple audio devices which do the same thing, PulseAudio is the answer, IMO.

Whether that is multiple sound sinks like speakers, headphone, wireless H.Phones, Bluetooth H.Phones, multiple MICs etc etc they are all selectable in the PulseAudio config GUI.

Thanks for the tips. I used Pulseaudio a lot before with other distros, really liked it. In PCLinuxOS it messed up my sound. It can be KDE related problem. I can not test Pulseaudio with my parents computer. If the sound goes junk, also there, the boss (father) will not be so glad  ;D. Pulseaudio have always given me better sound quality.

Edit:
I finally got Pulseaudio working on my laptop and my parents computer. Second time on my laptop and pulseaudio is working great. On my parents computer pulseaudio worked without any problem. Now external microphone is working like a dream. My parents will be glad when they wake up on the morning.  ;D
