Perl Spreadsheet

Hi i am new to Linux OS. I have LXDE installed on a laptop. According to Synaptic Package manager Perl Spreadsheet has been installed but can find it in the menus such as office etc.
Abi word was installed and is in the Office menu?
Any idea where it may have ended up?

Look in your menu under More Applications > Development. There may or may not be a menu entry there for one of the two (or both) perl modules you installed. Perl is a programming language, and what you installed is intended to be used to develop perl programs. It is not intended as a general spreadsheet editor. For that, you want LibreOffice. In particular, the LibreOffice Calc program.

Welcome to the forum Pilbara - lovely to have you with us.

In addition to djohnston sage advice if you do decide to install LibreOffice please look for the app named lomanager which is a custom PCLinuxOS script which will download and install LibreOffice for you

Thank you for the response. In the interim I have installed Gnumeric for the excel sheets and Abi word for the documents.
When I go to run LOManager I am told I need to upgrade this package. It is showing 3.4.2
I think that the process is synaptic pm find the program, highlight and click on reload to upgrade?
It then comes up in Synaptic that some of the required packages are unavailable from the server.
Is it a challenge to download the libreoffice as a package and install it?

Yes, I forgot that the installer is going through a transition right now. Please see here: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,59009.msg474655.html#msg474655 and report if you have any questions. Right now, your best options are to either wait for an update to the installer or to do the offline installation from the LibreOffice website.
