[SOLVED] Printer in paralel port not detected
« on: August 11, 2011, 07:26:48 AM »
My desktop has two printers:

USB HP printer detected and working

Paralel port Deskjet 720C not detected.

Any ideas on how to make the system to detect it? I do print with it under xp.

Thx

PCLinuxOS Control Centre - Hardware - Configure Printing and scanning .....  Other and enter   lp0:/  and search for your printer in the list

Hello.
Just tried this and have installed the printer, everything seems to be ok but it is not printing.

No idea what could be wrong.  ???

Have you used HP device manager to see if anything is flagged?

I would be inclined to shut down and restart to ensure that anything I may have done previously was not interfering.

Other than those .... no real idea  :(

the parallel port is recognized from kernel ?  try: dmesg | grep lp
or  try: modprobe lp

I had a parallel printer cable fail a few years ago. Went out and bought a USB cable and the same printer has worked well ever since. (Printer is an old HP 840C)

nippur, have you installed task-printing-hp?  The HP utility (device manager mentioned by just19) is actually a good one that can diagnose many issues.

Nippur,

I have a working 712C on parallel cable. Have you gone through all the options in PCC? Have you also gone through the CUPS setup?

http://localhost:631/ for the CUPS main page. If you are prompted in any administration section for a password, supply root's password.

Though I do see and have installed task-printing-ho when I go to the menues and try to launch it nothing happens.

I see in the printer properties that the system thinks that the device URL is usb://HP/Deskjet%201050%20J410%20series?serial=CN11D3P0TW05HW
though I did set it up with lp0:/ as sugested....
What should I do ?

Make sure you have task-printing-server installed. Then try the setup in PCC.

Gah.  I recently went through this.  Not sure if it is a broken package, but you need to install libqtcore4 to get it working.

Nope.  Tried it in a virtual machine as well.  Is there still a GTK version of HP's Device Manager?
