I got a new Brother DCP8080DN network printer (which works beautifully - both printing and scaning over the network). This printer is connected via ethernet (not USB) for all the follow...
When I set it up with the Device URI...
dnssd://Brother%20DCP-8080DN._printer._tcp.local/
or
dnssd://Brother%20DCP-8080DN._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/
The printer is seen by print drak (or PCC) as a local printer - which I understand.
However, if I set it up with the device uri of
ipp://brother:631/ipp
PCC sees the printer as a network printer.
Ok, so what....
Well, all work fine for printing, however, when it is seen as a network printer the "Document Print Status" icon, that comes up in the system tray when a job is sent to the printer, never goes away and always reports 1 document in the queue (even though the document printed successfully and "lpstat" returns nothing).
If the printer is set using a "local" device URI, the "Document Print Status" applet works, i.e. comes up briefly and disappears after the document prints.
Anyone have any idea on what's going on? - I figure that my machine is not hearing the printer say that the doc was printed - but beyond that??
