cannot boot <SOLVED>
« on: August 09, 2011, 05:36:10 PM »
Well today when I get home I hop on the ol' comp only to be disappointed by " error loading operating system" I ran live CD and redid the mbr with no success. Any ideas of how to fix this?? And for some reason it takes forever for it to load the live CD, I'm talking 10-15 mins. Don't remember it taking that long before.

Hi,

If I'm not wrong, that error come directly from BIOS, and you don't even see the grub screen .. right ?
If the answer is yes, double check your BIOS settings, and particularly check if the hard disk is correctly identified there.

Yea it doesn't go to the grub screen at all. The comp was working fine till I created a partition for XP. After that is when I got the error.

Yea I've been trying for the past hr. Same result " error loading operating system" I've been sitting here staring at a black screen for the past 20 waiting for the.live CD to load and its just got a.blinking cursor. I can here the CD rom working but nothing is happening. I only was putting windows on so I could root my phone. Need the updater that only works on windows to do it.

Please, start from liveCD, open a console as root user and type the following command:

fdisk -l (option -L, lowercase)

post the result

As soon as I can get live CD to boot I will. Neither one of my CD's I have are booting. And the one time one.of them booted all's it did was scroll some type of error over and over. Couldn't see what it was it was scrolling to fast

Check your cable connections for the hard drive, as in unplug and replug at both ends. If the optical drive is on the same cable (IDE/PATA) check that connection too. If the optical drive is on its own cable do the same as with the hard drive cable.

In addition to old-polack suggestions, try to perform a memory test too.

do you have any liveUSB stick available ?
can you try the liveCD on a different computer, just to be sure the media isn't damaged ?
