Resolved - Minimize button closes apps - latest XFC

Just loaded the latest & greatest Phoenix on my MSI U100.  I wiped the drive and installation went without a hitch but I have a problem I can't solve:  When attempting to minimize any application the app closes rather than minimize.  What can I do to fix this?

Are the apps definitely closed or are they maybe minimised and just not showing where you expect?

They are definitely closed.  This happens with all apps I have tried so far including Chomium, Firefox, Thunar, Pidgin and LibreOffice Calc.

EDIT --
Oops.  I spoke too soon.  Task manager shows them running but I can't find the minimized icons in either of my two workspaces.  Where else can I find them?

My minimized window shows next to the minimize all windows on the left end of the bottom panel. Firefox show as icon with title of from the top bar of Firefox.

Is a taskbar installed on your panel?

Temporarily limit your workspaces to one, then create a new panel, with windows buttons as the only item.  See if your open windows show up there.  They can hide inside XFCE.
