How do I send & receive faxes using PCLinuxOS 2010.12 LXDE?

I've been trying to send faxes and they all failed to go through, despite my trial and error experiences.  I've worked with several programs and looked high and low for answers to my question and I've found several different opinions.  Can someone please help me out.  Your help is very much appreciated.  I'm using PCLinuxOS 2010.12 LXDE, Kernel 2.6.33.7-pclos6 bfs.  I have a HP Officejet 4500 g510g all-in-one printer (print, copy, scan, fax) and my modem is said to be a 56k WinModem, according to my detected hardware in the PCLinuxOS Control Center.  If this helps here is the hardware information on my modem:

That machine should function as a stand alone fax over a hardline telephone.  However I'm assuming you want to fax over ethernet internet?

I'm using PCLinuxOS 2010.12 LXDE, Kernel 2.6.33.7-pclos6 bfs.

Are you fully up to date in Synaptic? The kernel needs to be updated to either 2.6.37.4 or 2.6.38.8.

Have you tried the efax and hylafax packages in Synaptic? Do you have the 56K modem plugged into your phone line?
