Hi! I'm not using any app in particular just in general typing the accents don't work. I know i can probably get some sort of virtual keyboard but it would be very inconvenient and would much rather have it working on my actual keyboard

Thanks for replying!  ;D

If the accent mark is at the right of the "ñ" then you have a Spanish keyboard, if it is at the right of the "p" then you have a Latinamerican keyboard, change your layout according to that.

I am new at this guys. How do I change the keyboard layout so I may type Spanish accents when needed or would it have to be permanent?
Thanks for your help.   ;D

It could be done through Configure Your Computer (the icon with the wrench in the panel) or through the DE (desktop environment e.g. KDE, Gnome, e17,  XFCE etc) configuration. If you are with KDE you better go the second way since there are more fine tunnings.

Which DE do you have?

I don't know what kind of keyboard you're typeing on, but if you have a standard American k/b, you can map a seldom used key to be
a Compose key.*  I have an IBM model M k/b that has no Microsoft keys, so I made the right CTRL ky to be the Compose
key. You could use the right ALT key, or the right Microsoft key, if you have one.  Then a combination of two keystrokes after--not simultaneous
with--the Compose key will produce the foreign characters, assuming your loaded fonts have them.  (Most do.)  I can type cañon, álamo.
¡Verdad!  ¿Es bueno, no? (CMP !! or CMP ??) I can also type ß, ä, ö, ü (German characters) garçon, hôtel, (French orthography) più (Italian
accent) € £, ¢ and various other things. (½, ¼, ⅓, ¥, µ) The compose key is not the same as the Alt-Gr key.  See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compose_key

* Make compose key according to this url:

Good luck--doug

he's selected US/UK keyboard on install ... there are 2 ways to change your keyboard set up in Phoenix ...

1) Open PCLOS Control Center

Hardware

Setup Keyboard Layout ...

Select desired layout and Keyboard type

click ok .. and restart

2) Open Xfce Settings Manager

Keyboard

Layout

remove Tick from use system defaults

choose your keyboard model (mine was a logitech media elite keyboard)

then click add on keyboard layout

select your layout

click ok

restart

this will set your keyboard for you in Phoenix ... i prefer the second option at it allows me to select my specific keyboard make and model
