Is non-WAP insecure?

When i'm in Italy (like now) I use TIM as my internet-provider. It goes through an Edge/3G USB chiavetta (key  ). I've been told to set the parameters up to non-WAP, but this seems a bit insecure to me (I always use WAP at home). Could anyone clarify my feeling about using non-WAP? Thanks.

... may be you are confusing WAP and WPA ?

You want the router to be non-WAP.  This is telling it to be a router, and not a simple wireless bridge (or access-point).  If you set it to be a wireless access point you will lose your internet connection. 

AS is right, you are confusing Wireless Access Point with Wi-fi Protected Access.

isn't TIM a cellhpne companny offering 3 and 4G connections?

if you have a router connected to a 3/4G network and you have to work with a wep network that is ok, as always wpa and wpa2 are more secure because wep pasword can be cracked in something like 1 to 5 hours

more information on what exactly you have there and what you want to do, please be very specific(brands of equipment and similar stuff are helpful here)

WEP is considered insecure.  There are vulnerabilities found that make it very easy to break, I guess it is better than nothing, but anyone hacking in will be able to break it in a few minutes.  WPA is secure, and WPA2 is even better.
