To answer your question. Stick in that second 1 tb drive. Format it via Windows or Linux as ntfs. Both linux and Windows will see it as a data disk fine.  I favor using external usb drives for this as long as the slower access time is not a problem.

Thanks cpufrier, I installed the new HD, start W7 and formated the drive, now I can see it in windows and linux, and have no problem with Grub.
