error "Starting Jovie Text-to-Speech service Failed"
« on: July 28, 2011, 10:08:00 AM »
This error message has started popping up on my desktop, appearing every hour or so for 10 seconds, then disappearing.  PCLOS KDE4 fully updated.

Anyone know what Jovie is and why it wants to contact me so badly?   :o  A search in synaptic doesn't bring up any package that incorporates the word "Jovie".

It is part of TextToSpeech .....  it can speak the Clipboard contents, the time from the clock, text in a file and so on.

Thanks!  I looked at my installed software list and don't show anything called TextToSpeech-- hoped I could try uninstalling/reinstalling and see if the error resolved.

I know at one point I was investigating a Linux alternative to something like Dragon Naturally Speaking speech recognition and may have installed something that converts text to speech to provide the reverse capability.  Using "text" or "speech" in a keyword search on my installed software list doesn't show any likely culprits.

search in Sybaptic for   tts   and see if anything shows

Have you checked the Accessibility settings in KDE CC?

no tts in synaptic or my installed packages list  :-\

KDE accessibility - only thing marked is "use system bell"

Hold Everything!  Digital clock settings (right click digital clock in systray) > general > speak time every _60 minutes_ .  Forgot I had altered that.

Now I can set that to zero minutes, but is there a way to get it to work (?)

Yes, anyone here knows how to get it to work? I have set the interval to 60mins, but just the error message "Starting Jovie ,etc, etc failed "

There are no "Talkers" to add in configuration.  Is this a missing part of the package required for Jovie?
