Folks, I'm glad to see we're going 64-bit!  I've launched the live CD on my Precision 690, and the results are so favorable I'm thinking of replacing my 32-bit install with the real Magilla and just goin' for it.  (I still have my D620 on the 32-bit for the time being, though.)

Hmm... I guess I could install alongside and just dual-boot.  Nah!  64-Bit, here I go!

I'm truly impressed with the rate at which packages are being added to the repos.  Packaging Team, you folks get the Bravo Zulu for this year!  Well Done!

I have had a slight setback to the release plans ... lastnyte i had a little meltdown in my PC ... my powerpack went up in smoke with a few flames ... when i added my new phenom board i neglected to update my powerpack for the new juice requirements ... i quickly replaced the Powerpack with an old powerpack ... so i need a new 1 asap which can deal with the power requirements ...  in the process of the meltdown i now have 2 unrecoverable HDD's ... no power goes into them at all and i guess when the powerpack went it fried the boards on the hdd's too ... only 1 drive survived 1tb which this weekend i was gonna finally get around to moving all my stuff too ... the irony of it ... on these lost hard drives are over 500gb of artwork ... media .... iso files ... basically my last 10yrs work in all my projects im am or have been involved with ... so i am starting from scratch ... i did manage to get the artwork for the new Phinx on a back up i had taken the other nyte on my portable usb thingy ... so have patience people ... looks like it may be the weekend you get it ....

As of yesterday the packages done now stand at "6700. Going at it like a spider monkey!"

Going to the Bar & Grill after it's all done........ ;)

So, T6, I guess this was a reference to Tex doing all the packaging?  Won't be the first time I've misunderstood something... :-\

Still, that's an even more impressive feat since it's just one person.

I managed to get one a few packages built. (Yea, before anyone else says it, not much help.) I don't know if anyone else has packaged anything.

Does anyone know if you can convert a 32 bit over to a 64 bit, or do you have to do a fresh install?  I am just wondering because I am going to do a fresh install this weekend, but don't want to have to do it again when the 64 bit version comes out.  I am guessing I will have to do a whole new install, but thought I would ask.

No, you can not convert a 32-bit installation into a 64-bit installation.

what you can keep is the partitions but not the contents of those partitions, referring to the system files in /

your personal files won't give you problems

Back up your personal files, as you will need to format your /home partition.

Dependencies. In some cases, I have been unable to package an app due to its build dependencies being not yet available. In such cases, you try to package what is needed, of course. Sometimes you may find that the package you have just built is not installable due to missing dependencies.
Forging ahead is the only way, IMO. The more new packages that get built and added, the easier the packaging will become.
Also, pkgutils are not yet available for 64-bit. You will need to do it manually.

Are there any changes for 64bit in the spec files, or does building in a 64bit environment automatically take care of the 64bit build process?
