Whatever search tool you use, the command updatedb should be run on a regular basis. How regular will depend on you; if you add new files and/or delete old files often, then you'll want to do it frequently.

updatedb is also done by a daily cron task, /etc/cron.daily/mlocate.cron. That task will update the locate database every 24 hours.

Yes. Just installed!  I think this is the winner!
It fails too much often here (so I'm not using it already) - so tell us if it fails to you too, szorady. :)
