Had this effect appeared and disappeared on two very different computers with different graphic cards.

I believe this problem is due to firefox settings. If the default font is set to a larger size, the line appears. Resetting the default font to a smaller size fixes it. Then the zoom in can be used to get a bigger display, when it is needed.

In other words, this seems to be an issue with the way that firefox attempts to set font size on web pages.

This may be irrelevant, but I have seen these lines at various times, and can make them go away by changing the Firefox window size slightly.

In fact, as you change the size from very small to very large, the lines come and go at fixed intervals.  I think it is something in the Firefox rendering engine (Gecko).

I also have these lines in Opera. I didn't have them before when I was using compiz, but I have just switched to the native KDE 3D rendering and they have appeared. Changing the font sizes and the zoom doesn't make things any better here. It's not really a problem for me, I just thought I'd let people know that it's happening in Opera too.
