[SOLVED] Problems with audio - ATI SBx00 Intel HDA
« on: July 21, 2011, 02:01:36 AM »
Hi there.  First time poster here, recently came to this distro as a result of disenchantment with the role the Narly Nachos base was playing on Mint and the LMDE edition still having many issues.  I like the look of PCLOS and have managed to find my way around most things.  One problem I am having, however, is my audio.  This doesn't overly surprise me as I have had problem (of various types) with every distro I have tried before on this laptop (Toshiba Satellite L755D), but this one strikes me as odd.

I get audio output - when the OS boots up, shuts down, I disconnect power etc I get the lovely little 'tinkly' sounds (not the standard 'beep') so it appears that my audio hardware is working to some degree.  However, I cannot adjust the volume using my hotkeys, the icon in the taskbar shows "Volume at 0%" and it can't be adjusted and Clementine gives me "Could not open audio device for playback".  However VLC gives me audio output and allows me to alter the volume within the program itself.

Any ideas where I should start looking for this - I assume it is some setting within the OS that is causing this, but I am confused by the fact that some apps work and others don't.

Resolved this - adding the line "options snd-hda-intel model=,dell-vostro" to my /etc/modprobe.d/snd-options file and rebooting gave me the option to select my "Master Channel" by right-clicking on the task-bar volume icon and I now have volume control and headphone output.
I haven't tested my microphone yet, and Clementine is still giving me the same error, but I guess that is an app issue, rather than a PCLOS fault.
I'll be back soon enough if I can't resolve this.
