The  home page announcement of this new Xfce4.8 seems to be saying that I have to choose between doing a fresh install of this new version or keeping the 4.6 version but no longer updating my system. Is that correct? Are there plans for a "task" version that could be added from synaptic?

Hi joec

Can you possibly copy/paste the reference you are referring to and we can offer more accurate answers.  Many thanks.

this was at the bottom of the home page anniuncement:

*Please note existing PCLinuxOS Phoenix users who have been keeping up with their Synaptic Package Manager updates do need to download and install this release as you will avoid breakages with the current XFCE 4.6 Environment.*
