My taskbar is not set to autohide or anything, but when I enable desktop compositing, it disappears!  The window doesn't move down or anything and if I hover over it, it reappears.  It's quite crazy...

I have an ATI mobile video card... it's an ATI Radeon 2000 (or later) according to PCC.

Now about pidgin, it doesn't have an icon for the buddy list.  I find this quite strange.. is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks!

what you describe is something that happens across all desktops ... sometimes the window borders are drawn underneath the the taskbars ... you can adjust each apps default setting by right clicking the applications window button ... along the bottom taskbar .... and select always on top ... then right click again and maximise ;) ... Phoenix will remember this for future ...

as for pidgin ... a screenshot of this buddy list issue .... i dont use pidgin so it's hard for me to picture it

Pidgin issue: http://ompldr.org/vOWpnYg/pidginissue.jpg

It also has that box in the panel. =)

About the other issue, when I do what you instructed, the panel is completely gone and I have to hover over it for it to pop back up... I probably used the wrong word earlier... too many years with Windows =P

Solved the Pidgin part of this issue.  I just reinstalled it and it has an icon now in the panel.

Also solved the disappearing panel issue.  Duplicated the panel and deleted the original.  It doesn't disappear anymore.  LOVING PHOENIX!!!  Thank you Kori!!

I was going to say just right click the panel and go to panel -> panel preferences -> appearance. Then slide the leave and enter slider over to 100. Didn't get back to XFCE in time to double check but glad you solved it :)
