(Solved) right clicking on panel icons
« on: July 18, 2011, 10:11:15 AM »
I thought I should make this a separate post.

in xfce 4.8, normally you can right click on a panel icon, choose properties, click on the edit the currently selected item, and you can change the icon etc. it's handy because you can use different icon themes or if you made a launcher in the panel  you can edit the commands if you messed it up.  ;D for some reason clicking on the edit icon does nothing.

I have the same issue. I hadn't thought about it too much, but after installing the all new Live CD (thanks again, Kori!) I noticed it again.

So +1

xfce4.8 doesnt work like 4.6 ... there are 2 ways to add a launcher now ... automagically ... this will add the launcher for example Web Browsing .... pre-configured and when you click edit there is nothing to edit ... or manually where you set all the options yourself ... as i added them automagically ... if you want to edit the launcher you will need to remove it's instance and manually add another instance ... 30 seconds to do now that you do not have to completely remove the launcher from the taskbar

Kori ;D ;D ;D

Kori ;D ;D ;D

I hate to be a thorn in your side Kori, but I disagree. I have Fedora 15 and Sabayon 6.0 both running XFCE 4.8 and both work the way I described and the way I think they should work. To be fair, I also have Foresight 2.5 running XFCE 4.8 and it doesn't work but it does give me an error message which was something like "exo-desktop-edit...no such file or directory". However their version of XFCE 4.8 is new and still in development. I will be asking them about it shortly. I am also in the process of re-doing another distro that uses XFCE 4.8 but I am fairly sure it worked also.

edit: I just finished installing the aforementioned distro as a guest and it works also.

never a thorn in my side Louis ... as for the other distro's they may do things differently and this is how we at PCLOS do it ... makes it easy for the user to add automagically or manually ... ;)
