If you don't take the time to do it right, When will you have the time to do it over?

First, you need to make sure you are fully updated.

(read this if you are unsure > http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,63201.0.html )

Then go to the "libre office manager" and click it. After a few simple questions, that will download and instal all of the office suite stuff.

Be patient because at times, it appears to be not doing anything. Especially at the end of the process, it seems to be done but it is not. Just wait. You will eventually get a "Completed" confirmation.

All your office suit will appear in the Office menu.

how do I make sure I am  fully updated? I have looked for something that leads me to updates but haven't seen anything. sorry to be such a newb the other versions of linux I have used just notified me that I had updates available. I have run the libre manager but it only asks for root access but then doesn't do anything.

welcome!
open synaptic and click reload, click mark all upgrades and apply, apply. let it do the job and see there is a message asking for a reboot.
in order to install libre office i  suppose you need to install (from synaptic) and run - you'll find it in menu, software center - aptupgrade.
reboot and then run lomanager again.

Please note that there is no need to install and run aptupgrade, if you installed from a 2011 ISO, except for the Full Monty ISO. Only the 2010 ISOs need this.   (Point of information.)

Thank you both for your quick response and informed help. that took care of the problem and all is well. This so far has been the best Linux forum and the best Linux release that I have tried. THANK YOU!
