KDE full edition.(solved)
« on: July 17, 2011, 07:50:12 AM »
KDE MiniMe 2011.7 and the updated KDE full edition.

I installed MiniMe. At first everything was working very well. I restarted and as mentioned by another user the connection icon was showing my connection was established but it was not. I searched but, now I can not find that thread. I went through all the steps that normally work to correct the problem. Nothing worked. If I find that thread it may have an answer.

I replaced MiniMe with the KDE full version and did the updates. After restarting I opened Firefox and my mouse and keyboard locked up. Turning the power off I restarted several times opened Firefox with the same result. Thinking it may just be Firefox I installed Chromium and it also locked. This problem was only experienced when using the Internet. I appear to be using the recommended kernel. I installed another distro to get to the forum. That one works fine.
Any suggestions to correct the situation? No immediate hurry I will use the other distro until the issues are corrected. Over all the years this is the first time I could not find the answers in the forum. I'm sure it is something I am doing. Both installs were clean replacing existing partitions.

What graphics card - and driver - are you using alex ?  Could try disabling Hardware Acceleration on Flash

Are you using the KWin Desktop Effects or Compiz?

You may want to consider creating a new user account to see if things still happen in that account.

Another consideration would be to try an earlier kernel - I think the next one down in the repo is kernel-2.6.37.4 with of course the .a64 or .bfs  or .pae variants of that kernel.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

The answers I just gave you are from the distro I currently have installed. It is Debian based. I don't know if that helps. It works very well.

I restarted and as mentioned by another user the connection icon was showing my connection was established but it was not. I searched but, now I can not find that thread

I have the same problem on 2 different hardwares after installing the new 2011-6 ISO
However, the old one, 2010-12 , fully updated did not have that problem. It was fine , day after day.

I noticed, with the new ISO, that if I reboot once or twice, the connection works.
Beats me, but for now, it's OK

The other thing that works is, when the icon shows a connection ( which is not working ), I disconnect, then connect again. Then it also works.
This is not new to me as I had this problem for over a year , before 2010-12 came out.

I am not in a hurry to start messing around, as I have many other things going on.

So, this information is just that....information !

EDIT: Yes...checked md5, burned slowly

I just reinstalled the full KDE, updated and everything is perfect. I'm sure it is because I didn't do anything else.  ;D

I installed the new KDE MiniMe on another desktop and everything is good. No connection issues. :)

well, yesterday I did an update ( about 70 packages ) and now things seem to be OK.
I didn't see any connection between the downloaded packages and the internet, but hey, .....
Have rebooted 7 times, and every time my connection is there

Also installed XFCE and connection is there every time

He well, as I mentioned above, it doesn't really bother me
