Root Password Not Working in Synaptic
« on: July 17, 2011, 10:56:57 PM »
Little problem here I cannot figure out. My root password works with everything except Synaptic Package Manager. It just says, "password invalid." Works fine on Control Center, and Terminal. Anyone?

Have you changed anything? Set up sudo? When did this start and what have you installed/configured since last time it worked?

What happens if you type synaptic from a terminal, either as your normal user or as root?

It's working OK now. I saw yesterday that a new version was out, so I knew there was a big update. for some ungodly reason, synaptic refused my password 4 times over. I finally called up a terminal, and updated with apt-get. After I rebooted, it worked again. Strange thing, man. Thanks for listening.

What release are you running? Was it installed from something other than the newest 2011 iso image? If so did you install and run the aptupgrade script?

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Magickman,
I've seen this before.  Password authentication gets into a bit of a tangle for the current session but works fine after a restart.
The cause has been non-specific.  I'm curious to know what you were doing previously in the problem session?
