Burning 2011.6 KDE in Windows
« on: July 12, 2011, 11:11:28 AM »
*** This post is for information only ***

This will probably not concern most users but it is something I found out by accident. A friend  has a laptop running Windows 7 but prefers PCLinuxOS. After downloading the iso they used Windows 7 built in application to burn a CD. All went well and no errors were reported. It wasn't until boot time that a problem was discovered. It appears that the Windows 7 burn app was unable to complete this burn correctly which I can only put down to the iso size of 699MB leaving no room for whatever Windows 7 needs to do to close the disk. The CD wouldn't boot up failing just before the end of the boot sequence with a file error message.
This wasn't a bad download or a bad CD, more than one of each was tried. A burn to a DVD with one of the already tried downloaded iso's solved the problem.
Too many cops, too few donuts.

On the main download page is this information that might have helped in this situation.

Quote
Burning an ISO image in Microsoft Windows.

ISO Recorder is a freeware tool which makes image writing available from the Windows desktop. Download and install ISO Recorder according to the instructions on their home page. You can write images in much the same way as under GNOME in Linux: browse to locate the file, right click on it, and choose ‘Copy image to CD’. This is the simplest available method for writing disc images under Windows.

I have ISO Recorder installed on a Windows computer, it's light and does a great job.  ;)
