[SOLVED] Problem With mouse and KVM Switch

I'm Having a problem with my mouse scroll wheel, at first I thought it was Firefox but after further research and testing it seems that my mouse and KVM switch my be the problem.

When I scroll up on my mouse it back up a page in all my browsers, needless to say this is quite annoying.

I've found a lot of info on the mouse scroll/back problem in firefox, but as I have tried all the fixes, and discovered it's in all my browsers, I don't believe firefox is the issue any more.

I then found info on a issues with driver config in xorg.conf, however, after looking at the xorg.conf file I found no mouse driver config.
The solution it talks about though has to do with how many buttons the mouse has compared to what the driver says, and what the zaxis says.

I have also found that possibly it may be the combination of my hardware.
I Have: A HP USB optical mouse wired.
          An Avocent 2 Port SwitchView KVM Switch with PS2 ports
          And A USB to PS2 Mouse adapter

Edit: It appears that it may have more to do with the KVM Switch as I've put a PS2 mouse on with out the USB to PS2 adapter and the problem still exists.

Try removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-mouse.conf and restarting

No Go,
I tried deleting the file and restarting same issue, plus the file hasn't replaced itself.

Also I discovered that it also backs up in the dolphin file manager, it seems this happens throughout the system not just in some programs.

Try renaming .xbindkeysrc to .xbindkeysrc.ORG  logout or restart and see if that does anything for you.

No Still no go,

Changed /usr/share/xbindkeys/xbindkeysrc
to /usr/share/xbindkeys/xbindkeysrc.ORG

Issue still exists  :-\

Still nothing, I've tried 3 mice so far 1 USB w/USBtoPS2 and 2 PS2

Maybe someone else will come up with an idea. Nobody else here has reported your problem so it is something specific to your hardware.

I have several KVM switches but not the one that you have.

Most of them only learn about the mouse and its codes when first powered up.

Try shutting down your system including all computers connected to your KVM switch.

If your KVM switch has an external power supply, unplug it.

Now start things back up starting with the computer that is giving you the problem. That should ensure that the switch knows what mouse it is dealing with and reports it to that computer on startup.

Then, bring up the other computers one at a time with each one selected at the KVM switch when the computer boots.

Then, plug in the KVM switch power supply.

I have two KVM swiches on my configuration and every now and then when I get one of those momentary power bumps, things get out of whack and I have to do this procedure to get things to work consistently.

Oh yeah, the first thing you really should do is temporarily eliminate the KVM switch and make certain that your your mouse works OK with that computer alone.

Thank you for your suggestion ThirdofSix,
I tried resetting my KVM as you described above with no success.
I Also tried your suggestion about removing the KVM, and yes, the problem goes away. So it is safe to conclude that my KVM is the problem.
I had another KVM of the exact same model so I switched them out just to be sure, and no go problem is still accruing. I also thought that maybe the problem was my KVM Cable but switching that out did nothing as well. It seems that the KVM Is sending the incorrect signals. I have Windows XP duel booted on this system so I'm off to test it in Windows. Wish me luck.

Okay, so,
The mouse has no issues in Windows Xp or my other system running PCLinuxOS 2010 hooked to the other port on the KVM.
So I think It just might be how my PCLinuxOS is interpreting the signal. I'm not really sure what to try next.

Edit: So this is just a problem with my KVM not an issues with PCLinuxOS Specifically.

That is disappointing.


I have to ask though, why are you using an adapter and going into the PS2 port on the PCLOS machine?

Oops, I had it backwards as to which devices were USB and which were PS2.
