[Solved]Linksys wusb54gc connection speed
« on: July 11, 2011, 08:01:07 AM »
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 2.8Ghz Core2 Duo, 4GB ram, dual booting PCLOS 2011.6 (38.8-pclos3.a64 & 38.8-pclos3.bfs) fully updated & Win7 Ultimate 64bit. The wireless internal adapter has been removed, so I'm using a Linksys WUSB54GC wi-fi dongle. Everything I've found (in this forum & elsewhere) says this adapter works well in Linux, and I didn't have any problems getting it working. But using it in PCLOS the best connection I can get is about 80% (usually runs about 65%) even within 20 feet of the router. Just cruising the forum, it will often hang while loading a page, and often gives 'Cannot connect to server' in both Firefox & Opera (reloading the page usually works). If I reboot into Windows, it runs flawlessly - no hangs, no slowdowns, 90%-100% connection up to appx 100 feet away. Is there anything I can do to get this kind of connectivity & speed in PCLOS? I've tried booting to both installed kernels, runs the same in both. I know it's a minor issue, but it is very annoying having high-speed that barely runs faster than dial-up.

Apparently Texstar & the devs are a step ahead of me...just checked for updates & pulled 15 packages. Two of them were usb related (modeswitch & something else). After installing did a reboot, now the wireless is working great. Guess I need to wait a few days before posting next time...
After almost 2 yrs of PCLinux you'd think I'd be used to this kind of thing, but its still nice to have a distro that goes above & beyond to make sure things just work. Thanks, devs!
