Hi muungwana and Old-Polack,
thanks for jumping in here.
what changes did you make to firefox to make it work?
what changes did you make to synaptic to make it work?
are you going online using a proxy server or something?
The more info you give, the easier it gets to help you
In Firefox I entered the correct settings under "manual proxy configuration" in "Connection Settings" and set "no proxy for:
localhost, 127.0.0.1, 192.168.30.*"
When opening Firefox, I'm prompted for a username and password to go online.
In Synaptic, under Preferences > Network I entered the same settings, but when reloading I get errors:
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.
apt-get updatefrom a terminal doesn't get anything either also I have not waited for it to time-out.
I have no idea how to proceed from here.
Any thoughts?
TIA
