Been investigating....
As far as I can tell, sound gets configured right.
Udev finds the card and it shows up in /proc/asound/modules.
To get it to show up in /proc/modules, run draksound. Don't select pulse audio.
Alsa mixer is the default. Set your volumes and unmute with alsamixer command.
There's no cd player that will work. Cdp is from a day when people drew on
cave walls.
Moc works best, but only plays playlists, so you have to rip some music.

If you have multiple mixers installed, ie. alsa, gmixer, or kmix you have to
figure out which one rules the roost (/dev/mixer) and go from there.
If you install something sound related, and it doesn't work, the problem is the
software, not Pcli-noX. IMHO
