Does anyone know if pkg-utils requires X?

No, pkgutils doesn't need X or X libs.

Tried to install easyrpmbuilder
Synaptic says 'Could not mark all packages
Depends: rpm-build

then rpm-build:
 Depends: rpm (= 4.4.6-18pclos2007)
 Depends: rpm-mandriva-setup-build

I've been running into the same type dependency problems. Tried to install pkgutils and got the same error messages as ongoto. rpm --version returns RPM version 4.8.1. apt-cache unmet returns a boatload of packages with unmet dependencies. Nearly all of the packages listed with unmet dependencies aren't installed. Spent some time researching apt-rpm and how to clean up apt-cache's lists, but have had no success.

^^^ Maybe should move these issues to broken packages ?

More notes about pCLI-NoX...

-- At the end of /etc/profile is EDITOR=vim.  should be export EDITOR=vim
-- There is no hostname listed in /etc/sysconfig/network by default.
-- Get a warning near beginning of boot: bad format line 2 of /etc/fstab
What am I missing ?
Code: [Select]
# Entry for /dev/sda7 :
UUID=83a1fe33-1b33-4933-a8bd-65cd37e81148 / ext4 defaults 1 1
# Entry for /dev/sda6 :
UUID=4c571d8c-4efb-4187-86f9-29f959883b59 swap swap defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0

"Installed  vim-enhanced
"Ran mylivecd and created livecd.iso.  It let me know that plymouth is missing. LOL

/root/ directory is empty by default.
copied contents of /etc/skel/ to /root/

Hi ongoto,

The content of /etc/skel and /root differ in usual installs. Particularly, /root/.bashrc is different. You might want to copy the /etc/skel content from the pCLI-NoX  to your standard install and compare the files with the /root directory in your install (or in a Lxde or a Bonsai, as they are small and have less than in a Kde install).

gseaman : I also find it's a good idea that you do a build environment.

Regards,
Mélodie

Welcome ongoto,

I can understand that, it's sometimes so frustrating when you see the aim, you think you are touching the aim, you are about to reach it !

poum
         poum
               poum
                     poum
                             poum !

and the aim is out of reach again !  ??? ???

Just for the Bonsai after I did my tests all July and August, then started the thread at the forum, then passed about 3 months with the testers who helped me, and at the end, the iso was 261 MB : only 85 MB more than the cli.iso it was build on...

So many obstacles... incredible !

BTW, is userdrake installed in PCLOS NonX iso ?

Hi djohnston, you should look for /usr/bin/userdrake

type "rpm -qil userdrake", if it's installed it shall return something starting like that:
Quote
$ rpm -qil userdrake
Name        : userdrake                    Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version     : 1.12                              Vendor: (none)
Release     : 3pclos2010                    Build Date: dim. 18 juil. 2010 19:16:27 CEST

It ain't installed, my dear. rpm -qil userdrake returns package userdrake is not installed.

Therefore I will ask Jase, your master developer for this project to add it urgently. :)

This package is very important to be able to add a user to a group in a way such that the iso once installed will still have the user (new users) in the same groups.

This is one of the major issues I have met when building Bonsai starting from the cli.iso of July 2010. I googled 4 days before finding what was the problem and how to fix it.

Here are the steps taken, I had taken screen-shots from within a Virtualbox install, in order to keep tracks of how to fix it (it was in RC3, while working to create the RC4):

This step should be done in a Live session, before installing. First, become root and install the package userdrake. Then, theses are the commands:

The image above should be self-explanatory, but if it need of any particular information about the succession of the commands... I'll be back here.

The result just after this sequence, in X session was correct: http://meets.free.fr/images/2-fixing-groups-in-RC3.png
Then I installed: http://meets.free.fr/images/3-fixing-groups-in-RC3.png
And after install the groups were still ok: http://meets.free.fr/images/group-fixes-in-RC4.png

Number 5 is alive!

Jase,

Just some observations.

userdrake has some missing libs (mostly X), and finally gives the following error:
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/userdrake line 29
(Line 29 is "use transfugdrake;")

I used useradd to add my user, then set the passwd from the root account.

I didn't realize British keyboard was enabled until I went to edit /etc/apt/sources.list. I changed it to US. (Yeah, I know you're in UK.) It's set to ibiblio, so I changed the source to debian.ethz.ch. After that, I rebooted to runlevel 1 so I could set root's password again.

/root folder has Desktop, Documents, Downloads, drakx, Music, Pictures, Templates, tmp & Videos. /etc/skel folder has Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures & tmp

I installed less, htop & mc, as I especially can't live without less.

There are a lot fewer unmet dependencies shown by apt-cache:
libpulseglib28
libpulsezeroconf0
rapidsvn
task-LXDEBlue-theme
kdesvn-devel
remmina-xfce
libSoQt-devel
libreoffice-openclipart

Don't know how you did it. Tried to apt-get -D remove all those packages, but they're actually not installed.

Looking good!

I missed that one! I tried drakuser, which, of course, is a soft link to userdrake.

Hi Jase,

downloaded the no. 5,  successfully installed in virtualbox, I was then able to remaster a new ISO using mylivecd, (it report a error about failing to copy a single file .... harmless)

Successfully installed from USB to an Asus EEE-BOX.

The EEE-BOX is using an Atheros wlan card (using ath9k), and drakconnect fail (exit without messages) immediately after choosing the wlan device.

Testing continue, specifically on atheros issue... if you have some specific test request, please tell me about.

  Well.... ;D

Downloading and installing was a cakewalk.  Added a user before installing
and all the group associations stuck.  No problem booting.  Mouse and
keyboard work fine except I'm not in the UK. LOL.  drakkeyboard to the
rescue.  ifconfig shows eth0 up.  I can't test wifi.  Hardware is getting
  detected ok.

Links is really fast but my posts don't show up here.
Links-graphic has it's problems too.   Running as user the keyboard works
fine but the mouse doesn't.  As root the mouse works but the keyboard outputs
2 characters each kkeeyypprreessss.  So you can't login.

Doing any forensics on the install is kinda tough since rpm isn't much help.

You have created a Farari Hootiegibbon.  This is blazing FAST.  mc works with
the mouse and is a handy file browser.  No sound yet.  directfb is amazing.
And thanks for all the hours you're spending with this.
