I couldn't get it to load up to the Xorg with "startx"  so I figured I ran XFdrake and selected the Nivida graphics card just above the one I have.

I have been able to get to my GUI screen now (but it doesn't look right).  Anyway I am reinstalling the nivida drivers i deleted and will later (tommorrow)  run XFdrake again and see if I can get back to working again.

I might start a new thread tomorrow night if in the correct area (Xorg) now that I am seeing what my problem is.

Thank you so much for your help this evening!

PS:  It is using the "VESA" driver now

I was able to replace the "VESA" driver with the "nv" that you had recommended.  The system booted up fine all the way to the Xorg (GUI).    It already appears to be much more responsive and not using all the CPU resources like it  was doing before.

I'll test more tomorrow and leave an update then.

Thank you muungwana and Rudge  again for your help.

Changing the driver to "nv" as instructed above in this thread made a world of  difference.   Now my X process use of CPU% is significantly lower - now 10%, maybe rising to 25% under load.     The system responds again like it should.   I wonder why this "nv" driver was not the default but I guess different hardware responds to different drivers.

i think pclinuxos video driver detection subroutine favors "nouveau" over "nv", it also picked "nouveau" on my system and i had to change it to "nv" because "nouveau" was a bit unstable.

Thank you muungwana and Rudge  again for your help.

You are welcome however, I refuse to take any credit for this "solve".

muungwana should take the full credit here.  ;)
