[SOLVED] Sound really low! -Sound issue!
« on: July 17, 2011, 11:01:53 AM »
I tried installing pulseaudio by following Texstar post in the forum:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,83740.0.html

After completing every step, I rebooted my laptop.  Installed from synaptic following packages; pavucontrol, padman and padevchooser.

Pavucontrol didn’t open so I went to terminal and typed pavucontrol. I got error message and typed pulseaudio. No luck. Searched in the forum for pavucontrol and fined no solution to my problem. So I went to synaptic typed task-pulseaudio-remove and marked it for installation. After that I removed pavucontrol, padman and padevchooser. Configure your computer → Hardware-> Sound Configure I saw if  Glitch Free Mode and Pulseaudio was unchecked. It was. So I rebooted my laptop again. This time the sound was so terrible low even if it supposed to be at max. So how can I get my sound working like before? I dont know if it is PCLinuxOS bug or KDE. I had no problem with pulseaudio in other distros. I hope I can get the sound issue solved. I also tried alsaconf and no luck there either.

My sound card:

Running PCLinuxOS on my USB. PCLinuxOS went bang on me. I have X-u-b-u-n-t-u on my laptop for now. Will give PCLinuxOS a try in the feature.

Yes it was.

so, i guess you'll have to install pulse audio uninstaller available in synaptic.

Did you run alsaconf again after running task-pulseaudio-remove  Kurdistan ?

Oh, did you reboot after the removal?

Another thing you could try is changing the backend from VLC to Xine from within

Configure Your Desktop >> Hardware >> Multimedia > Phonon - Backend

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

I solved it.  ;D

The problem was that PCM in kmixer and alsamixer didn´t work correct after uninstalling pulseaudio for me. That was the reason I couldn´t really hear the sound. So I installed gmixer and played with PCM. Now the sound works and also PCM for kmixer and alsamixer. I don´t really know why gmixer solved it, but it did.

Many thanks for the help I got!
